The high-powered Droid Razr line series of Motorola is almost ready to welcome a new member in the form of Motorola Droid Razr HD, touted to be one of the best handsets to set foot in 2012.
Verizon and Motorola have been contemplating on bringing a strong competitor to catapult both their brands. With that in mind, Droid Razr HD comes flexing its muscles. The high end device is capable of competing with Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X. However, the main wrestle is expected to eventuate with iPhone 5, the sixth generation smartphone from Apple.
Known by the codename Droid Fighter, the Droid Razr HD is officially close to being launched. The FCC filing has revealed the device being registered by the model number XT926. All the more the filing also showed that Droid Razr HD will feature NFC support. The handset is likely to arrive clad in a Kelvar body running on Ice Cream Sandwich.
It’s predecessor, Droid Razr Maxx features huge 3,300 mAh battery which may be found in Droid Razr HD. The battery is the biggest exclusive factor that has propelled Droid Razr Maxx clearly revealing its recent exploits in the U.S. over iPhone 4S in Verizon.
Motorola Droid Razr HD is expected to feature 4.5-inch 720p HD screen with a reported 1196×720 pixel resolution. The home screen buttons found in previous versions will be replaced with onscreen keys which renders a total of 720 x 1280 resolution making it par with HD display found in Samsung Galaxy S3. The bigger, sharper and crisper screen surely does holds an untold advantage against a hot favorite competitor like iPhone 5, even though it brings better display options.
Meanwhile, Droid Razr HD spotted in China featured a13-megapixel camera on the rear and a 3-megapixel front facing for video chat. The snaps taken from Razr HD also appears to be better than iPhone 4S due to more megapixels. Other features expected to adorn the device include a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU matched on the graphics end with the Adreno 225 GPU, 4G LTE support and 1 GB RAM. Considering that Razr Maxx featured Super AMOLED display, there are probabilities of Razr HD coming with similar display which will boost its prospects against iPhone 5.
Speaking of accessories, Motorola is famous for its crowd-pleasing lapdocks and car accessories along with media docks. Motorola’s Blur user interface that was recently launched on Atrix HD is astonishing as viewing videos looked good on the phone. Newer blue overtones and holo user interface stands out in Atrix HD. In other ways, Atrix HD may have laid the platform for what Droid Razr HD may look like. Motorola Atrix is considered to be the perfect low cost device that meets high end specs. Even Verizon’s Motorola Droid Razr Maxx continues to draw consumers from all corners. Motorola Driod Razr Maxx can be purchased starting at $99 at select online retailers with a new two year contract. The handset delivers 21.5 hours of talk time or 15.0 hours of video playback from a single charge of its 3,300 mA battery.
Recently, HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE was launched with a very cool price tag of $149.99 on-contract and going by the records, Verizon swiftly dropped the prices of some of its other Android smartphones. Similar options can be expected for Motorola Droid Razr HD.
Going by the news surrounding iPhone 5, the handset is still in rumor mill and much of the anticipated features are still being speculated.
The latest rumor on iPhone 5 indicates that the gadget will feature a 4-inch display possibly manufactured by LG or Sharp. The upcoming phone is expected to sport iCloud service, iOS 6 operating system and a higher-resolution camera. The A5X processor found in iPad 3 is the closest call. Apple’s A5X contains a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU with NEON SIMD accelerator and a dual core PowerVR SGX543MP4 GPU with quad-core graphics support, which means that the iPhone 5 can do twice the work at once. If the handset has to support LTE feature then dual-core is only option left in the market as quad-core processors are still not compatible with LTE. However, none can forget the talk about A6 chip being readied by Apple, but the chip may not be ready to be delivered as key semi material suppliers had earlier reported about 28-nanometer chip production nearing completion. Hence iPhone 5 featuring iPad 4G processor is more likely. Storage options may remain the same with 16, 32 and 64 GB of local flash memory rendered for iPhone 4S.
It is a highly publicized fact that Apple also filed patent applications related to 3D capturing in March. The filing has indicated that the device can capture, process and render 3D images with dual-camera hardware. Also, iPhone 5 will be capable of taking pics in Panorama.
Another latest speculation is that Apple may be reducing the dock connector size for the newest iPhone. The 30-pin connector port used in latest version will be replaced by 19-pin connector port, according to Reuters.
Furthermore, Apple iPhone 5 may include NFC functionality compatible with the Sony “FeliCa” standard and the upcoming ISIS mobile payment standard being developed in the USA. Moreover, GSM, CDMA and 3GPP LTE support works on all known cellphone frequencies used worldwide.
There are also talks doing rounds on whether Apple’s new smartphone will feature Liquidmetal to bring back a metal design. Other wildest rumors surrounding iPhone 5 include inclusion of face recognition security, 4G LTE support, sleeker body design, OLED screen, scratch proof and shatter resistance, extended battery life, flash support, SIM-less phone, physical keyboard and 1 GB RAM support.
Update: Recent FCC document filing revealed that the Droid Razr HD will feature non removable battery 2,530mAh battery.
