Several rumors are doing rounds on upcoming Apple’s flagship smartphone, the iPhone 5. Reports indicate that the next generation Apple iPhone 5 may be a whole new device compared to iPhone 4S. Otherwise it could simply be a revamped iPhone 4S with better features similar to latest Apple iPad.
In what seems like an indication of what could be expected from iPhone 5 reports reveals the next generation Apple smartphone may have major features of Apple iPad. The new Apple iPad has features such as 4G LTE connectivity, quadcore graphic dual-core processor, bigger battery life and new map navigation system.
Meanwhile, Samsung has launched a wonder machine in the form of Samsung Galaxy S3 to counter any challenge Apple throws in its path. However with top competition ahead, consumers will be the benefactors as they will get hands on different phones meeting their needs.
In fact Samsung Galaxy S3 did receive similar welcome from consumers as they did it with Galaxy S2 last year when it was launched. However, predicting what could come out of the iPhone 5, Samsung brought out a phone that is more advanced and powerful to trounce not only the upcoming iPhone 5 but also iPhone 4S which is doing well in the market today, setting record sales for Apple.
Apple iPad’s resolution found in 9.7-inch display of 1536 x 2048 pixels surely puts Apple iPhone 5 par excellence. Given the resolution packed in a Apple tablet one could speculate Apple could bring out a handset with display ranging from 4-inch to 5-inch, while also still maintaining, double the resolution or more.
The brain child behind the new quadruple resolution super high aperture is none other than Sharp. The Osaka based Sharp has formulated a procedure that involves applying a 3 µm thick photo-definable acrylic resin layer in order to increase the vertical gap between the ITO pixel electrodes and signal lines which resulted in producing the new iPad display. Moreover, Apple plans to spend $9 billion on screens this year compared to last year’s $4.7 billion expenditure to produce that high definition impact.
Apple will most probably migrate its iPhone to a 4-inch display (manufactured by Sharp) which has been in circulation for some time with resolution of 1280-x-720 or 365ppi.
Meanwhile, Galaxy S3 sports a 4.8-inch 720 x 1280 pixels resolution display. Samsung’s preference to Super AMOLED Plus screen for their flagship phones has resulted in Galaxy S3 being a distinguished handset. In case Apple brings out a higher resolution display, Samsung’s AMOLED display is still something to be envied about as it gives probably the best colours and contrast in comparison with any mobile device, even if it lacks the sheer raw detail of the iPhone 4S.
Thickness and Weight:
Samsung Galaxy S3 has 8.6 mm thickness and weighs 133g. That gives a lot of leverage against Apple iPhone 4S which as a handset weighs 140 g and is 9.3 mm thick. But if Apple include LTE chip, the weight may vary resulting in a bit heavier iPhone 5. However, if iPhone 5 features completely different design with lighter components then the handset may be lighter than iPhone 4S as well.
Apple usually sticks with 16/32/64 GB storage options and iPhone 5 is expected to follow suite. And probable chance of it upgrading from present 512 MB RAM found in iPhone 4S to 1 GB RAM is quite likely as Apple usually upgrades their RAM with newer launches.
Galaxy S3 features 16GB/32GB/64GB storage capacity along with 2 GB RAM for US versions while International versions feature 1 GB RAM. And with microSD support of up to 64 GB which Apple iPhone lack, the Samsung phone holds clear advantage. Samsung Galaxy S3 with 128 GB storage support surely can outsmart iPhone 5, however if iPhone 5 introduces 128 GB storage in it then that will become a different story altogether.
In fact iPhone 4S features a Sony 8-megapixel sensor. And with Sony announcement of three new back-illuminated stacked CMOS image sensors optimized for bright and low-light conditions which will be available in 8- to 13- megapixel flavors, there are possibility of iPhone 5 featuring higher capacity camera than that of iPhone 4S or maintain the same 8-megapixel front. According to Sony, the new compact sensors are faster, consume less power than previous versions as it features new “RGBW Coding” and “High Dynamic Range (HDR) Movie” abilities baked directly onto the hardware. Such is the hype about the new technology that this sensor will have little problem shooting pictures in dark rooms which is evident with pictures taken through that technology.
Samsung Galaxy comes with 8-megapixel 3264×2448 pixels camera supporting features like autofocus, LED flash, simultaneous HD video and image recording at 1080p, geo-tagging, touch focus, image stabilization, face and smile detection.
It is reportedly claimed that Apple is testing two iPhone models, one equipped with a dual-core, the other with a quad-core processor. In a related news Apple is thought to be developing quad-core A6 processors to succeed its presently employed A5 and A4 chips. If A6 quadcore chip is employed then iPhone 5 will pack speed ranging from 1.2-to-1.5 GHz.
Lately, a report about Apple working on both A6 and A5X chip was revealed. Now the A5X dual-core chip found its place in recently launched Apple iPad with quadcore graphics. The only question that remains is where is A6 chip headed? It is likely that Apple is developing the A6 for use in future products, could be even iPhone 5. There are reports about TSMC’s 28-nanometer manufacturing process which might shrink the circuitry compared to the A5. It is manufactured on a 40-nanometer process, making the A6 smaller and faster. Also quadcore Apple A6 support found in iOS 5.1 beta proves that A6 chip can make it to iPhone 5. However possibility of A5X processor powering iPhone 5 cannot be ruled out.
Samsung Galaxy S3 has a powerful Exynos 4212 quadcore 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 processor giving it enough leverage to do that extra bit of multi-tasking.
Assuming the new iPad has the advertised battery life (10 hours), we can fully expect for next iPhone to keep the same great battery life that it possesses right now while adding a faster processor and 4G LTE connectivity.
Apple $500 million acquisition of NAND Flash designer Anobit (an Israeli tech firm) will translate into a number of key improvements for the next generation of iPhones. The most noted improvement will be on battery life as “Anobit’s core speciality is increasing multi-level flash cell performance [and] both single-level and multi-level flash memory are efficient compared to DRAM storage which requires constant power”, according to InventHelp. They also mentioned previously that “Apple did not update the design of the iPhone 4S probably because it is working on flash technology that would allow for a reliable slim iPhone 5.” Due to acquisiton of Anobit next generation iPhone can benefit with increased storage capacity, faster access of music and video, a slimmer design, and perhaps even a cheaper price tag.
Samsung Galaxy S3 has extra large 2100 mAh battery. On a truthful front, during CES Samsung promised all day battery life to power their phones. Kevin Packingham, vice president of product innovation at Samsung said “When you wake up to when you go to bed, we don’t want you feeling anxiety about your battery life.” That means under average or moderately heavy use, Samsung phones coming out this year will be able to run without users having to worry about finding an outlet.
Release and Price:
Apple iPhone 5 will most probably be released in October as it was with iPhone 4S and when it comes to pricing Apple is expected to maintain similar pricing as it did with new iPad.
