AVG Internet Security 9.0 Review

Posted on 11 January 2010

AVG’s new internet Security 9 arrives to make life a little simpler for novice computer users who are worried about viruses and worms. Installation of the suite is simple. The set of wizards towards the end ask you what kind of a system and entwork you’re on. The installation ends with a choice of optimization of the scanning.

Little has changed in terms of design. The interface shows a list of all its components. Double clicking on each of them opens the settings windows for the component. A separate pane for scanning is also present. Manual scan operations can be started from this menu. Scans can also be scheduled to be run at certain times of the day.

The firewall component is effective. There are rules that can be set specific to programs. While basic settings are displayed in the properties window for every component, a more advanced version is also available.

On a system with 512 MB of memory, it puts some load on it but nothing that shows it down terribly. Memory consumption is around 30 to 35 MB most of the time. Updating of the virus definitions and program are done automatically with little trouble. If you don’t have an internet connection, updating can be done using update files.

For those looking for a good, feature-rich security solution for their home PCs, this is one to check out. The pricing for a year’s subscription is Rs 1,599 – a little expensive in our opinion.
