Casstt’s annouces new softwareA company by named Cassatt’s Active Power Management technology has developed a software which follows a method such as the time of day, demand, server priorities, application dependencies and individual server power consumption in deciding when to power down the machines and also when to turn them on. The Company’s main policy is to help other companies run green data centers through software which improves the resource by increasing operational and energy efficiencies.

The new APM (Active Power Management) developed by the company is much better than existing power reduction techniques, including virtualization and consolidation, as revealed by the source.

Windows, Linux and UNIX are supported along with other major systems by APM.

Dan Kusnetzky who is the President at Kusnetzky Group said, “I was expecting some of the key innovators in virtualisation technology to pick up that theme and run with it.  Cassatt stepped forward with an announcement that clearly is a step in that direction”

This new technique has already been adapted by Network storage based solutions provider Brocade. Brocade installed APM on 40 servers in its San Jose data centre.

IDC (Industrial design center)  analyst Michelle Bailey said “”Cassatt’s innovations in this space not only offer customers a solution for reducing IT operations costs, but also help bridge the gap between facilities and IT.”

Studies by American Power Conversion Corporation have shown that servers are consuming as much as 55 per cent of their fully loaded power when they sit idle.

The test on this program has revealed that it saved their customer as much as 50 per cent in power usage by switching off idling servers.

APM will be available before this year ends. This new software will be independent and can work with IT hardware, software and facility equipment such as power distribution units.

Michelle Baily works for International Data Corporation, not the “Industrial Design Center.” She’s been on the forefront of virtualization technology for quite some time.
