Posted on 12 December 2008

The Chrome browser from Google is out of beta and has been released.

If you want to be the first person to get Google Chrome, up can get it directly from Google. Apart from this release, on Thursday, a small proportion of existing Chrome users will automatically get the update.

And approximately 10 million present users of Chrome will get the download.

Usually Chrome checks for updates every fifth hour of use.

The update system has been used for 14 updates of the beta product so far. This 15th update will be the first non-beta release.

What is new in Chrome?

You can expect from the latest release may be “tons and tons of bug fixes”, according to Sundar Pichai, vice president of product development.

These fixes will mainly focus on audio and video playback. Chrome is also expected to be faster.

A special look at features:

  • Bookmark manager is being revised, for those who want to import or export bookmark lists.
  • Privacy options in one dialog box.
  • Improvements in security features of the browser.

Many features are still being worked on and 3 main features that are being worked on are extension support and Mac and Linux versions.

Curious users can monitor Chrome’s progress at Chromium.org, or download the Google Chrome Channel Chooser, which will tell their installation of Chrome to download either the betas between major updates of Chrome, or even the nightly (and often buggy) builds of the browser as it is developed.
