Sam Manekshaw otherwise known as Field Marshal Sam was one of the best Indian Army officer, ever produced. Yesterday, 27 June, this wonderful man I respect, passed away..While I truly offer my condolences to the family, would like to share something in tribute to this great man..
Sam Manekshaw was the first of only two Indian military officers to hold the highest rank of Field Marshal of the Indian Army (the other being Field Marshal K M Cariappa).
Born to Parsi parents in Amritsar, Manekshaw, brought success to the Indian army, when he led the Indians to victory in 1971, a war with Pakistan, which subsequently ended with the surrender of 1 lakh Pakistani soliders and the formation of today’ Bangladesh.
”He became India’s first field marshal in 1973. He retired to Wellington the same year where he lived for the last 35 years,” said General KV Krishna Rao, former chief of Indian Army.
Once Sam, asked for just 2 weeks time to Indira Gandhi to completely destroy Pakistan during the 1971 war, but if it was not the international pressure, Sam would have after forming Bangladesh, completely destroyed the terrorist groups and its activities in Pakistan..
May India produce such great men, who was even ready to sacrifice their lives for this country, fighting in the upfront lines..
May Sam’s soul RIP!!
