iPod Touch 64 GB Review

Posted on 07 January 2010

Similarities are only skin deep

Externally alike, the 32 and 64 GB versions of the Touch are pretty different from previous version internally – they have the same hardware as teh iPhone 3GS. Unlike the earlier Touch that had a 533 MHz ARM CPU, this model has a faster 800 MHz CPU and double the RAM at 256MB. Voice control is also possible with this Touch, and the microphone and volume controls are located on the headset – similar to the iPhone. We also discovered full support for Bluetooth 2.1 including EDR.

Sound quality remains identical – excellent – and the large screen remains a favorite for movies. Evidently Apple hasn’t upgraded the battery, since this would make the device heavier and bulkier, and owing to this battery life is lower than the 2G model, but it’s more than the earlier model. Gaming is a better experience and in general, the device is snappier.

It’s expensive, more so than many phones out there, but there’s a premium experience awaiting you. The only sore spot remains the ever-present iTunes.
