Posted on 12 January 2010

The launch of Google Nexus One phone has created a lot of hype, to an extent where many analysts believe, that the phone can give some good competition to Apple iPhone.

What makes Google Nexus One a much hyped phone?

The Nexus One smartphone has an ultra-powerful processor, bigger screen to that of iphone, Android 2.1 OS, better camera than iPhone, inclusion of MicroUSB port, better browser than iPhone, flexiable storage system, user replaceable battery, voice recognition feature, A-GPS (amazing GPS), built-in noise cancelling technology and its cheaper than iPhone.

Wow, that’s a lot of better things out there.

Features:

Ultra-powerful processor: Nexus One boasts of Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor. Possessing this processor makes Nexus One as powerful as your laptop computer 3 to 4 years ago.

Display: It has a 3.7 -inch screen with a widescreen WVGA AMOLED touchscreen of 800×480 pixels resolution.

Android 2.1 OS: Nexus One is the first phone in the market which runs on this OS, which makes multitasking so easy. Since it’s based on open source platform, users of this phone can do a lot of things on their handsets.

Camera: With a 5-megapixel camera on a phone, one can take good quality pictures. Nexus One comes with autofocus, 2x digital zoom and LED flash.

Browser: Google smartphone has Webkit browser, which can support Javascript and Flash-based webpages.

Memory: The phone has 512MB RAM. Although it ships only with 4GB microSD card, it can be fitted in its microSD card slot, which is expandable up to 32GB.

Replaceable Battery: This is an amazing feature, because users have the advantage of replacing the battery which promises usage of up to 10 hours of talk time and up to 290 hours of standby time.

Voice recognition feature: The voice recognition feature in Nexus One is compatiable with almost every known application or software. This feature is applicable for text messages, emails, Facebook updates and Twitter, as well as search Google, call contacts or obtain driving directions by just speaking into the phone.

GPS: Google is already the master in map navigation around the world. The phone has free satnav capabilities – Google Maps Navigation, an application that gives voice-guided turn-by-turn driving directions.

Noise cancelling technology: Nexus One offers active noise cancellation through the use of two microphones – a first for Android phones.

Quite affordable: Nexus One retails for $529.99 unlocked, which is about $70 cheaper than iPhone 3GS (16GB). On the other hand, a subsidised Nexus One on a 2-year T-Mobile contract would cost you $179.99, which is again $20 cheaper than a subsidised iPhone 3GS.
